Pro-Russian motorcade registered in Bremen

Russia-friendly demonstrators want to stage a motorcade in Bremen on May 8th. The rally should include 30 to 40 vehicles and start around noon, the interior authority announced on Thursday. According to the title, a private individual had registered the parade with the regulatory office as a “peace demo” aimed “against violations of the people, bullying and discrimination against the Russian population”. The “Weser-Kurier” reported about it first. May 8th is the day of liberation from National Socialism.

According to the interior authorities, details such as the route and possible conditions have not yet been finally clarified with the organizer. There was already a conversation with the applicant on Thursday, and the authority is expecting further answers on Monday. “We will then make a decision,” said interior authority spokeswoman Rose Gerdts-Schiffler.

In principle, approving the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine is a criminal offence. Showing the Z symbol, which Russia uses in connection with the war, will therefore be prevented at a demo in this context. However, there is no blanket ban on Russian flags at demos in Bremen.

Two demonstrations have also been registered for May 8 in the Hanseatic city, which are explicitly opposed to the war in Ukraine. These should take place at 3 p.m. in the Marktplatz/Domshof area. According to the authorities, one of these demos was registered by Belarusian and Russian activists, the other by Ukrainians.
