Just like the 169 other candidate officers of the Royal Military Academy, Princess Elisabeth left camp for Elsenborn yesterday. With in her backpack a gas burner, a pocket knife, a headlamp, black shoe polish and all the other equipment needed by a soldier on the site.

Students will complete their military initiation phase there until September 25. This means, among other things, getting up every day at 5.45 am. They are not only drilled, but they also learn how to handle weapons and how to camouflage themselves. A hike with map and compass is also on the program. They sleep in tents. Princess Elisabeth too, because there are no exceptions for her. Security people will be constantly on hand to keep an eye on her.
After the training camp near Butgenbach, the princess takes part in the ceremony of the blue berets, the official start of her military career. The king and queen will be present at that ceremony.
