Private-built San Roque Paddle Tennis Courts to Open to Public After Municipal Takeover

Although they are on municipal land, they were built by a private company

The town hall will pay 29,000 euros for the three tracks / Web track at stake

The San Roque tennis and paddle courts have been closed and unused since 2020, practically the entire legislature. The cause has been, according to the current government team, the need to reach an economic agreement with the company that has managed them for years. An agreement that ended in 2018 and was not renewed although the company continued to use the space.

According to municipal information The company had a debt with the city council of more than 31,000 euros for the use of the facilities since that agreement ended. The company for its part, through a municipal agreement from 2007-08, had set up three paddle tennis courts on the premises that it paid for out of its own pocket and has now demanded that the city council pay them. These clues have been valued at 29,000 euros.

The negotiation, which has been stranded for two years, has now come to fruition. To regularize the situation, the city council and the company have reached an agreement so that one debt will be compensated with another, in this way the company that managed it will only have to pay 2,000 euros of the debt it had and the paddle tennis courts will become municipal property. The agreement was presented and approved in one of the last local government meetings of the Guadalajara city council.

Opening to the public

When this is resolved, the slopes of San Roque will be opened to the public for the moment with municipal management. From the town hall itself they confirm that the tennis courts have already begun to be used but by federated people and belonging to clubs. Once the purchase is settled, a management can be launched, for the moment municipal, and the tracks will be opened to all residents. An opening for which there is no specific date.
