ANNOUNCEMENTS

The court in The Hague has sentenced seven men to twelve years in prison for their involvement in a fatal stabbing in The Hague, in which a 17-year-old boy was killed.

The victim was attacked by a group of young men near a supermarket on Rijswijkseweg in The Hague last May. The incident resulted from a stabbing earlier in the day, in which a 14-year-old boy was seriously injured.

Collaboration between suspects

A total of nine suspects from Delft, The Hague and Zoetermeer went on trial. The prosecutor had asked for prison sentences against all of them.

Although only one of them stabbed the victim to death, all the suspects cooperated in such a way that there was co-perpetration, the court ruled. “Their roles were interchangeable before, during and after the stabbing.”

According to the court, the suspects only wanted to give a partial disclosure, but there are strong indications that the stabbing took place in the context of drill rap. This is a form of hip-hop that came from America, which often contains violent lyrics. Rival drillrap groups compete against each other on a regular basis.

Higher penalties for two brothers

Two brothers received the higher sentence of twelve years for complicity in murder. According to the court, there is sufficient evidence against one of them who inflicted the fatal wound on the victim. For example, footage from the camera showed the suspect was holding a shiny object with a sharp point during the attack, reports Transmission in the West.

Another suspect was sentenced to seven years in prison for conspiracy to commit manslaughter. The judge doesn’t think the suspect was aware of the plan to commit murder.

Four suspects were sentenced to up to two years in juvenile detention for their roles. Youth TBS also applies to one of them. The other two suspects were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
