Prince William Unable to Attend Memorial Service for Late Godfather

Prince William Absent from Memorial Service for Late Godfather

The royal family gathered at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, England, on Tuesday to pay tribute to the late King Constantine II, the former king of Greece. However, one notable absence was Prince William, who was unable to attend the thanksgiving service for his late godfather.

King Constantine II, who reigned as king from 1964 until the abolition of the Greek monarchy in 1973, passed away in Athens in January 2023 at the age of 82. The service was attended by several members of the royal family, including Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, and Princess Beatrice. However, Prince William’s absence did not go unnoticed.

According to a royal source, Prince William was unable to attend the memorial service due to a personal matter. He reportedly called his family to inform them of his absence. It is important to note that there is no connection between Prince William’s personal matter and the health of his father, King Charles III. The monarch announced in early February that he has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing treatment.

While Prince William was unable to attend the memorial service, his wife Kate Middleton continues to recover well after undergoing abdominal surgery in January. She was last seen in public in December when she joined her family for a Christmas morning church service in Sandringham. Meanwhile, Prince William has been taking on more royal duties in light of his father’s diagnosis. He was recently seen carrying out an engagement at the British Red Cross headquarters in London on February 20.

King Constantine II was not only Prince William’s godfather but also a cousin to his late grandfather, Prince Philip. The late king was a familiar face at milestone royal events, including Prince William’s confirmation and wedding.

Although Prince William’s absence from the memorial service is unfortunate, it is understandable that personal matters can sometimes take precedence. As the future king, he has been shouldering more responsibilities in light of his father’s health, and it is important for him to prioritize his family during challenging times.

The royal family continues to navigate through these difficult circumstances, supporting one another and fulfilling their duties as representatives of the British monarchy.
