Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, recently spoke about two of his biggest passions: his family and the Invictus Games. Established a decade ago, the Invictus Games is a Paralympic-style competition for wounded service members founded by Prince Harry himself.

Just one week after flying from California to London to visit his father, King Charles III, who was recently diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer, Prince Harry traveled to Whistler, British Columbia, the location of the 2025 Invictus Games.

In an interview with “Good Morning America,” Prince Harry discussed his father’s diagnosis and his quick decision to visit him. Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to spend time with his family, Prince Harry emphasized the importance of their bond.

Although Prince Harry did not disclose further details about his father’s illness, he expressed his desire to see him again soon and mentioned upcoming trips to the UK to spend time with his family.

The duke had not seen his 75-year-old father since the king’s coronation last May at Westminster Abbey. During his recent visit, Prince Harry had an hour-long meeting with Charles before returning to the US.

A Legacy of Resilience

Prince Harry’s connection to wounded servicemembers and their families began when he launched the first Invictus Games in 2014. As a former British Army servicemember himself, Prince Harry hosted the Games in London, and since then, they have been held in different cities worldwide.

The upcoming Invictus Games in Vancouver and Whistler, to be held in 2025, mark a new chapter for the competition as winter sports such as alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, skeleton, and wheelchair curling will be included in the event for the first time.

Over 500 participants from more than two dozen nations are expected to compete in next year’s Games. The Invictus Games provide a platform for wounded servicemembers to showcase their skills, resilience, and determination.

Family and a Bright Future

During his visit to Whistler, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, had the opportunity to meet with numerous Invictus participants and explore the competition venues.

After spending time in the Vancouver area in early 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan have settled in Montecito, California, together with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. In the interview, Prince Harry mentioned that their children are doing well and bringing joy to their lives.
