Prince Harry (38) and Prince Andrew (63) will have no formal role during the coronation on Saturday. This is confirmed by Buckingham Palace, according to Daily Mail.
The Dukes, of Sussex and York respectively, no longer have royal duties. Although they will attend the coronation, they will not take part in the procession that takes the King and Queen from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace after the coronation ceremony.
According to the newspaper, Prince Harry will rush back to the United States to celebrate his son Archie’s fourth birthday together with Duchess Meghan (41) and daughter Lilibet (1).
According to the Daily Mail, Prince Harry made it to the UK yesterday, Friday, by scheduled flight. He is said to have flown with American Airlines, which is said to have surprised several of the passengers on board the plane, the newspaper writes.
He landed at Heathrow Airport in London just before half past twelve, British time. He arrived at Buckingham Palace just before a quarter past twelve Norwegian time on Saturday.
He arrived as expected alone, without his wife Duchess Meghan.
– Tops it all
– I feel pain from him. Although the situation he is in is self-inflicted, it is not difficult to imagine that this is painful. It is a big day for his father, and the rest of the family. While older brother William and his family have a big role, he sits alone without his family, banished further back, says Se og Hør’s royal house expert Caroline Vagle.
It was previously known that it was precisely because of the children that Meghan stayed at home in the United States during her father-in-law’s coronation. For a long time, great tension was attached to whether the Sussex couple would be present, as their relationship with the rest of the British royal family can be said to have been strained in recent years.
Dark clouds over the coronation
According to Sky News Harry will have a very small role during the coronation. They learn that he is to be “benched” in the third row in Westminster Abbey. The rest of the royal family will sit in the front row.
– Prince Harry is most likely placed in the corner of shame. It is not so strange, because he is no longer a working royal. This is a distinction King Charles has made very clear and therefore he will not, for example, stand on the balcony later today. The same applies to his uncle, Prince Andrew, says Se og Hør’s royal house expert Caroline Vagle.
On the eve of last year, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan came up with a documentary series on Netflix, where they told their side of the story after the “break” with the royal family.
Just before the New Year, Prince Harry’s memoir “Spare” also came out, and both in the series and in the book, a number of strong accusations are made against both King Charles (74), Queen Camilla (75) and Prince William (40).
The conflict between Harry and the rest of the family is said to have lasted a long time, but did not reach the public until he and his wife appeared for a controversial and debated interview with talk show legend Oprah Winfrey (69) in March 2021.
– Cruelly done to the children
Prince Andrew, for his part, renounced his royal duties after a scandalous interview in 2019, and over the uproar surrounding his friendship with convicted pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew himself has had to pay several million in settlement in a court case where he was accused of sexual abuse. He himself claims to have never met the woman who reported him, and denies having committed the abuse.
