Prime Minister Pisas: Situation of Increased Infections ‘Under Control’ in Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Gilmar ‘Pik’ Pisas of Curaçao has stated that the situation surrounding the recently increased infections with corona and flu on the island is ‘under control’. Pisas, who currently acts as Minister of Health, responds to recent developments.

Earlier this week it was announced that the number of flu and corona cases in Curaçao has clearly increased. As a precaution to prevent the spread of infection, patients with respiratory problems in the hospital are now treated separately from other patients.

In addition, since Wednesday it has been mandatory for all visitors to the SDKK prison in Curaçao to wear a face mask, a measure announced by the management on Tuesday. The SVB also imposes this obligation, partly because sick employees are the first to report their disability to the social insurer.

Nevertheless, Pisas emphasizes that there is no reason to panic. He calls on the population to remain alert and to take everyone’s responsibility to prevent a further increase. This includes measures such as washing hands regularly, wearing a face mask and maintaining social distancing.
