Prime Minister on the profanation of the figure of Christ by LGBT activists

LGBT activists profaned the statue of Jesus Christ carrying the cross, which is located at the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Warsaw. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki referred to the scandalous incident via social media.

“The basic condition of any civilized debate about tolerance is to define the limits of this tolerance. Can you justify any, even the most iconoclastic behavior, by fighting for your vision of the world? Does the end justify the means? Definitely NO!” – wrote the head of government. As he emphasized, there are certain limits that were exceeded yesterday. The Prime Minister recalled that the figure of Christ from Krakowskie Przedmieście is not only a religious symbol, but also a witness to the dramatic history of Warsaw. “The same Warsaw that suffered at the hands of people who did not tolerate a vision of the world other than their own” – he indicated.

“Each side of the great ideological dispute of our times, which is growing all over the world, and the effects of which are also felt in Poland, must understand that there are certain limits to the level of aggression that cannot be exceeded. And we are not talking only about physical aggression, but above all media and verbal aggression. – in the sphere of culture, symbols and ideology, because today this type of aggression has a much greater impact on society. Today, millions of Poles want to live in a tolerant country that respects different points of view. I fully support this and as the prime minister of the Polish government I will always be on guard freedom of speech and thought. These values were and are inextricably linked with Poland and Solidarity “, we read in the Prime Minister’s entry. Mateusz Morawiecki emphasized that such acts of vandalism as yesterday do not do anything good, and their only goal is to further divide the society. “I will not allow it!” He declared.

“In Poland, we will not make the mistakes of the West. We all see what tolerance towards barbarism leads to. Tolerance also means reciprocity. Without respecting the ideals of the majority, all minorities win only enemies, instead of winning supporters. Stanisław Jerzy Lec once said – ‘When destroying monuments, save plinths They can always come in handy. ‘But do the demolishers surely know what for?’ – Prime Minister Morawiecki concluded.
