The mdw stands for a culture of diversity and appreciation in all of its areas of activity, from the diversity of artistic and cultural forms of expression to equal opportunities and anti-discrimination.
All members of the mdw should be able to study or work successfully, regardless of their social and geocultural educational and experience background, their form of sexual desire and gender identification, their generation and age, their own self-image and worldview, their individual physical and psychological impairments or their being involved in caring for other people.
the platform queer_mdw shows and supports the diversity of sexual orientations, gender identities and lifestyles and thus questions the prevailing normativity. Linked to this platform, the Senate Working Group on Sexualities and Gender Diversity in close cooperation with the Equal Opportunities, Gender Studies and Diversity Office (GGD), the following agendas:
- Implementation of the third civil status entry at the mdw
- Recommendations for action for teaching, research, development and opening up the arts
- Non-binary universities: mdw-specific processing of recommendations already developed at other universities
A gender | queer | diversity call is advertised every two years and promotes artistic as well as scientific projects.
Together with the Gender Equality and Diversity Department of the Students’ Union, the mdw takes an active part in the Rainbow Parade every year and contributes to the Vienna Pride program through various activities.
In 2019, the mdw received the Meritus award for its extensive commitment.
