Prices of new cars in the Czech Republic fell, Škoda Octavia by 140 thousand

Prices of new passenger cars on the Czech market fell by an average of 0.8 percent in the second quarter. Cars in basic equipment became cheaper by up to 3.2 percent, ie by 14,919 crowns, while the best-equipped cars became more expensive by 0.7 percent, ie by 5,154 crowns. The coronavirus epidemic manifested itself in price movements. That’s according to EY’s price index.

The price of cars with a diesel engine fell by 1.6 percent and with a petrol engine by 0.3 percent. Hybrids fell 0.6 percent. On the other hand, CNG cars rose slightly by 0.1 percent. For electric cars, the price stagnated.

Discounts will continue, but not high

“Thanks to the price index, we can observe the first effects of covid-19 on the Czech car market in the last quarter. Slight discounts thus occur not only at the difficult-to-monitor level of the seller-consumer, but also at the level of the official offer of car dealerships. According to the development so far, it is possible that selected prices of new vehicles may continue to fall in an attempt to improve this year’s sales results. However, forecasts regarding price list discounts in the amount of lower tens of percent are definitely not being fulfilled, “said EY partner Petr Knap.

About 40 percent of the cars in the basic equipment became cheaper due to special price lists. Compared to the beginning of 2018, however, the cheapest variants of cars, despite discounts in the last quarter, are on average 9.5 percent more expensive; in monetary terms, they have risen in price by 39,866 crowns in a year and a half.

Ford Kuga became the cheapest, Dacia Duster became more expensive

For the basic versions, the price fell the most in the lower middle class, by 9.6 percent, and in the upper middle class – by 1.9 percent. The exceptions were the SUV and small car segments, where prices rose by 0.7 percent and 1.5 percent, respectively. For example, the Ford Kuga fell by 141 thousand crowns in the 2nd quarter, the Škoda Octavia by 140 thousand crowns and the Nissan Qashqai by 118 thousand crowns, while the Škoda Octavia came with an Active trim level, a special 125-year edition and a 1.0 TSI engine.

On the other hand, a significant increase in prices was recorded for Dacia Duster models, namely by 50 thousand crowns, for which the special offer ended, and Renault Captur, which became more expensive by 105 thousand crowns and introduced a new generation with a modified offer of engines.

Compared to April, 38.2 percent of the most expensive variants of the monitored models became more expensive. The highest growth was recorded in the minivan segment, by 4.1 percent. Small cars became more expensive by 2.6 percent.

The highest available Renault Captur and Renault Clio variants became the most expensive, thanks to the addition of hybrid variants to the offer. On the other hand, the price of the highest equipment fell the most in the Nissan Qashqai models, which became cheaper across all equipment. Prices have also fallen for Volkswagen Golf models, which is due to the end of the offer of the electric variant of e-Golf.
