Prices for flights have fallen again due to uncertainty about travel | Financial

The travel industry has bought a lot of space in hotels with the expectation that the Dutch are eager for a holiday. However, the ambiguity about holiday rules and the uncertainty about the course of the corona pandemic makes people cautious, which means that bookings are lagging behind.

The decrease is all the more remarkable because prices usually rise just before the summer holidays. That was the case even last year, despite hardly any people going on holiday then. The travel industry had counted on this again this year, according to Zoover, which analyzed 10 million prices of package holidays over the past three years.

The travel industry also expected that people would want to spend more this year because they had saved money last year. “Here too, we see a major trend break this year: people have been booking cheaper holidays in recent weeks,” says Zoover director Judith Eyck. Instead of sticking to their budget and booking a more luxurious vacation now that prices have come down, many consumers are choosing to take the advantage.

In recent weeks, the search has been mainly on car holidays to countries such as France and Italy. While last year the Netherlands was the most popular country for the holiday, it is now France again. Almost a third of the searches on Zoover concern that country, while last month it was still minimal.
