Expenditure will fall in the coming year as schemes to support companies will be phased out. For example, as of 1 October, various measures such as the support from the NOW wage subsidy, the allowance for fixed costs TVL and the temporary scheme for the self-employed Tozo will be cancelled.

A total of almost 11 billion euros in expenditure has been budgeted for next year. This year, around 6 billion euros less is expected to be spent on measures to combat the corona crisis than was foreseen in the spring memorandum. According to the Court of Auditors, the final account can only be drawn up in the years after 2022.

The NOW expects that billions of euros in excess money will have to be repaid in the coming years. With 3.6 billion euros, the NOW will still be a major expenditure item at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment next year.

At the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the expenditure of 3.7 billion euros is almost entirely intended for the National Education Programme. The costs for testing and vaccination against corona will rise to around 2.1 billion euros next year.
