Presidential candidate number 3, Ganjar Pranowo, responding to a statement by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan who invited the ministers to resign, but they have not resigned until now. Ganjar stated that Mahfud, who is also his vice presidential candidate, was waiting for the right moment.

“Mr Mahfud has said that he will wait for the momentum. Mr Mahfud is a responsible person,” Ganjar told reporters in Kuningan, West Java, Saturday (27/1/2024).

Ganjar said that this sense of responsibility is closely related to the integrity that Mahfud has shown so far. He touched on Mahfud’s track record of integrity.

“You see, of all the ministers, who has high integrity, who is that person? Mr. Mahfud is that person,” said Ganjar.

Ganjar admitted that he had discussed it with Mahfud Md regarding the plan to resign his vice presidential candidate from the position of Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. He believes that potential conflicts of interest can be avoided when Mahfud steps down considering his position as minister and vice presidential candidate.

“So yesterday we had a discussion with Mr. Mahfud so that the potential for conflict could be eliminated, so he could resign. So you can take any position, but resign. I think resigning is very fair because democratic values will be highly maintained. Otherwise, it will be difficult,” he added.

Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, opened up about the widespread issue of ministers in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet wanting to resign. Ministers who have been widely rumored to resign include Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono, and most recently Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md.

Luhut welcomed any minister to resign. According to him, there were ministers who had been offered to resign but never resigned.

“Please just resign. You’ve been offered to resign, don’t back down,” said Luhut when met at his office, Thamrin, Central Jakarta, Friday (26/1).

When it was confirmed who the minister he was referring to, he did not want to answer. However, when asked about the fate of Sri Mulyani, who reportedly resigned, Luhut said that so far the state treasurer had not resigned.

Luhut even stated that so far he is still on good terms, and has even met Sri Mulyani.

“Nothing, I still meet you well,” he said briefly.
