The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, who turned 62 this Friday and had already been vaccinated against COVID-19, confirmed this Saturday (04/03/2021) that he tested positive for antigens, waiting to confirm the result of the PCR test.

“I wanted to tell you that at the end of today, after presenting a fever record of 37.3 and a slight headache, I performed an antigen test whose result was positive,” the president wrote on his Twitter account early in the morning of this Saturday.

“Although we are awaiting confirmation through the PCR test, I am already isolated, complying with the current protocol and following the indications of my personal doctor,” remarked Fernández, who on January 21 received the first dose of the Sputnik-V vaccine and was subsequently inoculated with the second.

The ruler received the two doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, the first on January 21 and the second on February 11.

The Argentine president completed the schedule of two doses of the Sputnik V vaccine, from the Russian laboratory Gamaleya, the first of which was received on January 21 and the second on February 11, according to presidential sources.

“I have contacted the people with whom I was meeting in the last 48 hours to evaluate if they constitute a close contact so that they can isolate them,” Fernández said.

Argentina faces a second wave of coronavirus with a sustained escalation of infections. According to official data, the South American country, of 44 million inhabitants, has more than 2.3 million infections and 56,023 deaths from COVID-19.
