President Joko Widodo likens the current condition to a computer shutting down for a moment

JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo likened the current condition to a computer that turns off momentarily so that the situation becomes stuck or hangs but it must be an opportunity to restart it.

President Joko Widodo while addressing the MPR-RI Annual Session and the 2020 DPR-RI and DPD-RI Joint Session, at the MPR / DPR Building, Jakarta, Friday, said that the current world economic crisis is the worst in history.

“ In the first quarter of 2020, our country’s economic growth was still plus 2.97 percent, but in the second quarter we were minus 5.32 percent. The economies of developed countries are even minus a dozen percent to minus 17 percent, ” he said.

The Head of State likens the current situation to a computer where the economies of all countries are currently stuck or hanging.

” All countries must undergo a momentary computer shutdown process, must re-start, must re-boot. All countries have the opportunity to reset all their systems, ” he said.

He also said that the setbacks of many of the current major countries due to the COVID-19 pandemic could be an opportunity and momentum for Indonesia to catch up.

The Head of State expressed his warm welcome to the moral calls full of wisdom from religious leaders, religious leaders and cultural figures to make the momentum of this pandemic disaster a new awakening to make a big leap.

According to him, this is the time for all parties to improve themselves fundamentally, carry out major transformations, carry out big strategies.

“Big strategies in the fields of economy, law, government, social, culture, including health and education,” he said.

The Health Sector Must Be Accelerated

President Joko Widodo also emphasized that fundamental reforms in the health sector must be accelerated in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

“With this pandemic event, we must accelerate fundamental reform in the health sector,” said President Joko Widodo.

The Head of State added that orientation towards disease prevention and a healthy lifestyle must be prioritized.

On the other hand, strengthening the capacity of human resources, developing hospitals and health centers, as well as the drug and medical device industries must be prioritized.

In addition, we must increase the resilience and capacity of health services on a large scale.

“Likewise with food security, by ensuring the smooth running of the food supply chain from upstream production to downstream distribution, throughout the country,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of efficient food production, increasing added value for farmers, strengthening cooperatives, and farmer corporate methods will continue to be improved.

“Food estate is being built to strengthen national food reserves, not only upstream, but also downstream of industrial food products,” he said.

He added that the effort was no longer using manual methods, but using modern technology and utilizing digital sophistication. Not only for the domestic market, but also for the international market.

All Plans Must Change Totally

President Joko Widodo also said that everything that had been planned had to change completely, including the celebration of independence day due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Supposedly, all the seats in this courtroom are fully occupied, without a single seat empty,” said President Joko Widodo during a speech at the MPR-RI Annual Session and the 2020 DPR-RI and DPD-RI Joint Sessions at the MPR / DPR, Jakarta, Friday.

He also expressed concern because of course, since 2 weeks ago, various races and crowds full of joy, carnival celebrations commemorating the Independence Day was held, enveloping the atmosphere of the 75th independence month of the Republic of Indonesia.

“However, everything we have planned must change completely,” said the President.

All this, said the Head of State, still can not reduce gratitude in commemorating the 75th Anniversary of Indonesia Merdeka.

“A total of 215 countries, without exception, are facing difficult times hit by the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

In the WHO record, said the President, until August 13, 2020, there were more than 20 million cases in the world, with the number of deaths in the world as many as 737 thousand people.

“All countries, poor countries, developing countries, including developed countries, are all experiencing setbacks due to exposure to COVID-19,” he said. ***
