Hunter Bidenson of the President United States of America (AS) Joe Bidenwas formally charged with criminal trespassing firearms ownership regulations. This indictment has the potential to weigh on his father’s re-election bid as US President for a second term.
As reported ReutersFriday (15/9/2023), Hunter, who is now 53 years old, was charged with deceiving an arms dealer into selling him a firearm, even though he was using drugs when he bought the firearm.
US Special Prosecutor David Weiss charged three criminal charges related to Hunter’s lying about the fact that he used drugs, which according to US law prohibits him from owning firearms.
The first indictment against the son of an active US President was revealed to the public on Thursday (14/9) local time. This criminal indictment was filed in U.S. District Court in Delaware.
Hunter’s indictment ensures that the legal case will play a huge role in the 2024 presidential election campaign, which will likely be a rematch between Biden (80) and former US President Donald Trump (77), who is also embroiled in a series of criminal cases.
Prosecutor Weiss filed the firearms law violation charges after Hunter’s plea deal in the tax case, which Weiss also investigated, failed to be honored.
In a deal reached with Weiss in late July, Hunter agreed to plead guilty to two counts of misdemeanor tax offenses and enroll in a “pretrial diversion” program, which often involves counseling or rehabilitation, to avoid being charged with violating firearms regulations.
But in a dramatic hearing on July 26, the deal collapsed when rumors emerged that Hunter was immune from other legal charges that were also being investigated by Weiss, including criminal allegations related to his business dealings in Ukraine, China and other countries.
