President Erdogan to Discuss Climate Change at G-20 Summit and UN General Assembly

AA / Ankara / Diyar Guldogan

The President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will discuss climate change issues at the upcoming G-20 summit in India and the UN General Assembly in New York.

The Turkish President will travel to New Delhi, the capital of India, for the G-20 leaders’ summit, which will be held on September 9-10. Climate change will be one of the important items on the agenda he will address.

During the summit, under the theme “One land, one family, one future”, Recep Tayyip Erdogan will share the measures taken by Türkiye to fight against climate change during bilateral meetings with other leaders.

After the summit, Erdogan will travel to New York to attend the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, where he will address the issue of climate change during his address to the Assembly as well as in bilateral meetings.

Türkiye is among the countries that make the largest contribution to the Paris Climate Agreement with its 2053 targets for net zero emissions and green development.

Ankara is working for a cleaner and greener Türkiye by promoting many projects, including the “zero waste” initiative.

In 2017, under the auspices of First Lady Emine Erdogan, Türkiye launched the Zero Waste Project to highlight the importance of waste disposal in tackling the climate crisis.

The project has been hailed by the international community. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his gratitude to the first lady during a conference in New York last September.

Last December, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution on the “zero waste” initiative presented by Türkiye, declaring March 30 as International Zero Waste Day.

“We will continue to work on this vital issue which concerns the common future of our world and humanity, both by fulfilling our own obligations and by taking initiatives at the global level,” President Erdogan told outcome of the cabinet meeting on Monday.

We will share these issues with our interlocutors at the G-20 Summit and the UN General Assembly, which we will attend next month, and we will do our duty to our own citizens and to all of humanity.”
