“President Bush sends his regards.” At the time Saddam Hussein was captured

Although almost two decades have passed since the secret American mission, which was carried out by special forces and led to the arrest of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, its details have come to the fore again.

A veteran shared information about his experience when he was part of the team that captured the late president on Dec. 7, 2003.

President Bush sends his regards.

In a televised episode, retired Army commander Sergeant Kevin Holland explained that the “Delta” Force team told the Iraqi president when he was arrested that “President Bush sends his regards,” when they took him out of a hole where he was hiding clandestinely, in reference to US President George W. Bush Jr., who was governor at the time, according to a report published by the American New York Post.

Holland also described the mission in the episode entitled “Danger Close” as “difficult and surreal”, revealing that information had reached the American team that Saddam Hussein was hiding in a hole in the ground of a small agricultural town in Iraq.

He explained that the hole was covered in a layer of leaves and sand and sealed with Styrofoam to mask its location, while having a small tube attached to allow for airflow.

He added that officers discovered the hole and found it lined with bricks, then threw a hand grenade into it until a human voice came out speaking Arabic.

Holland said: “I stuck my hands out of the hole holding a head with bushy hair, to show it was Saddam Hussein,” describing the president’s condition as shocked.

Saddam’s weapon in Bush’s custody

He also revealed that the “Glock 18” was in the possession of the President of the United States, explaining that that weapon is now with President George W today.

He added that the Iraqi president has tried to appeal to the American team, confirming his identity and declaring his willingness to negotiate.
