Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government will implement an emergency Community Activity Restriction (PPKM) by limiting the hours of a number of economic sectors, one of which is shopping center and retail operations which are limited to 5 pm. However, the plan made the business community nervous.
“In addition to limiting operating hours, there will be a potential for significant public arrivals during tightened operating hours, restrictions will result in the deterioration of merchandise for MSMEs who place their hopes on selling their products, becoming unsold,” said Roy N Mandey, General Chairperson of the Retail Entrepreneurs Association. Indonesia (APRINDO) in an official statement, Wednesday (30/6/21).
In addition, there is the potential for slowing productivity in the food and beverage manufacturing sector as well as the potential for closing retail outlets. As a result, it could lead to the erosion of household consumption as the largest contributor (60% of GDP) to the expectation of economic growth in Indonesia because operational restrictions have resulted in limited mobility of people coming to Retail & Mall outlets.
“Very ineffective & relevant, regardless of the situation, people will still meet their basic and daily needs that cannot be eliminated or postponed, we certainly do not expect multi-dimensional health, economic & social crises in the end, but what we hope is out of the pandemic crisis & economic progress,” said Roy.

“Then it will be a game changer and the ultimate key success factor in minimizing the impact of the pandemic and breaking the transmission of Covid-19, as we know from the experience of China and various European countries which are more successful in tackling Covid-19,” said Roy.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that the imposition of restrictions on emergency community activities (PPKM) must inevitably be carried out.
This was stated by Jokowi when giving directions at the Opening of the VIII National Conference of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi, Wednesday (30/6/2021).
“This emergency PPKM policy will inevitably be carried out because of the conditions that I have conveyed,” said Jokowi.
