In absence, Karol G was the top winner of the Premio Lo Nuestro 2024 with nine trophies, followed by Maluma, Carin León, Shakira and Peso Pluma (these last two also absent), with four each. But the highlight of Thursday night’s (Feb. 22) event wasn’t the winners themselves, but the performances.
With more than twenty musical numbers, the 36th annual Premio Lo Nuestro award was a colorful spectacle that brought to the stage some of the greatest Latin music artists of yesterday and today. From those honored with special awards Don Omar, Olga Tañón and Ana Bárbara, who were undoubtedly among our favorites, to Yuridia and Ángela Aguilar, Anitta, Camilo and Evaluna (showing her recently announced second pregnancy), Grupo Frontera, Chayanne and much more , there was music for all tastes and ages.
Maluma, who led the list of nominees with 14 mentions, opened the show with his two new forays into Mexican music. First she sang the hit “Según qué”, without her collaborator Carin León, and then she performed the happy corrido “Bling Bling”, her collaboration with Octavio Cuadras and Marca Registrada, also alone.
Among other highlights, Gente de Zona presented “Celia,” which uses original recordings by the Queen of Salsa to create an infectious medley with “She has fire” and “La negra tiene tumbao.” And Carin León took the stage with Kane Brown to premiere her new duet, “The One (Pero No Como Yo)” live.
The Premio Lo Nuestro 2024 was broadcast live on Univision and was hosted by Galilea Montijo, Angélica Vale and Clarissa Molina. Anglo mainstream artists such as Kane Brown and Machine Gun Kelly also attended, who took the stage alongside Carin León and Don Omar, respectively.
