Premier League, Manchester City | Guardiola opens up:

The Spanish manager wants to coach a national team when he finishes in Manchester City.

It is in an interview with the Brazilian newspaper Or Balloon that the Manchester City manager should have commented on his thoughts on the future. In November last year, Pep Guardiola signed a new contract which means that he will remain at the club until after the 2022/2023 season. Then the Spaniard has spent seven years in the light blue part of Manchester.

According to Guardiola himself, he will then say stop.

According to O Globo, during an event with a Brazilian company called XP Investimentos, Guardiola stated that he needed a break after seven years at the club.

– The next step will be a national team if the opportunity arises. I have to take a break after seven years in Manchester City, he says according to the newspaper.

Guardiola says he needs to stop for a bit and learn from other coaches.

– Maybe I have to take that road and train a national team. I would like to train a team in the European Championships, Copa America or the World Cup, he continues.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager was also asked if he would consider coaching the Brazilian national team in the future. The answer may not have been quite what the locals had hoped for.

– I think Brazilian coaches succeed best with Brazil, he answers without closing the door completely if the opportunity should once open up.

– It’s a fantastic team. Some players I have worked with, others I have met. Brazil is always a strong challenger. They will always be a favorite, says Guardiola.

The Spaniard took over Manchester City in July 2016 and has led the team in almost 300 games. He has won the Premier League three times in five seasons at the club, but he has not succeeded in securing the generous Champions League trophy for Etihad.

The team lost the final against Chelsea last season.
