Premier League: Arsenal win tie against Chelsea

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal have outnumbered one point in the London derby at Chelsea. Jorginho’s penalty (28th minute) and Cesar Azpilicueta (85th) put Chelsea in the lead twice, but both equalized Arsenal. Gabriel Martinelli (64.) and Héctor Bellerín (87.) scored for Arsenal, who was outnumbered for an hour after David Luiz’s (26.) emergency brake.

Arsenal have been unbeaten for four league games, but have drawn three times in a row. The Gunners lost the first leg at the home debut of Mikel Arteta as Arsenal coach 1: 2 after a late goal – this time they had an answer to a late setback. Due to the division of points, Arsenal is now tenth in the Premier League, Chelsea is fourth.

Arsenal started reluctantly without his striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who left Chelsea with the ball and only attacked from the center line. After a quarter of an hour, Tammy Abraham headed into Bernd Leno’s arms for Chelsea’s first chance (15th). Shortly afterwards, his teammate Callum Hudson-Odoi put a flick from the left to the crossbar (16.). Arsenal was higher after about 20 minutes. With his own possession, six Granit Xhaka repeatedly moved to the position of the left-back so that Bukayo Saka could take part in the attacking game.

Luiz sees red

Arsenal had barely changed direction, but fell to Chelsea’s lead. A back pass from Shkodran Mustafi from the half field to goalkeeper Bernd Leno was too short. Chelsea’s Abraham ran into the ball, dribbled past Leno and was brought down by David Luiz in the penalty area (26.). Referee Stuart Attwell showed the defender the red card, which ended Luiz ‘first return to Stamford Bridge after joining Arsenal last summer. The penalty converted Jorginho to the lead for Chelsea (28th). After the goal, the hosts withdrew and let Arsenal run more often, but there was no great chance for the Gunners before the break.

It was only in the 64th minute that Arsenal got his first shot on goal – and scored to equalize. Mustafi cleared a corner corner of Chelsea in the foot of 18-year-old Gabriel Martinelli. The sprint started and was lucky that N’Golo Kanté stumbled on the center line as the last defender of Chelsea. So Martinelli had free rein and scored after his sprint across half the field to equalize (64.).

The final phase was spectacular. After a corner kick, Hudson-Odoi flanked Arsenal’s penalty area and Azpilicueta pushed the ball 2-1 over the line (85th). The hope of victory did not last long. Two minutes later, Bellerín dribbled from the right wing into the center and hit the goal from the bottom left again from 16 meters.
