Preliminary agreement on wage surcharge for 147,000 construction workers | Inland

After long negotiations, unions and construction employers have reached a new wage agreement for the sector’s 147,000 workers. This is confirmed by the trade unions and employers’ federation Confederation of Construction.




The agreement provides for a 0.4 percent surcharge from 1 December. In addition, a corona premium of 150 euros, supplemented by another 150 euros in companies that did not make a loss in 2020. According to the unions, “a large majority” of workers have the prospect of the full 300 euros. On top of that, there is a premium of 130 euros in ecocheques because the wage increase will not take effect until December 1.

Furthermore, according to Gianni De Vlaminck, federal secretary of the socialist trade union ABVV, the end-of-career schemes, such as SWT (early retirement), were also extended. From now on, every worker will also have to undergo 8 hours of safety training before starting work on a construction site. Employers can count on an extension of the 280 tax-friendly overtime hours to railway construction workers. This arrangement already existed for road builders.

“These were difficult negotiations that almost resulted in actions, but in the end we reached a good draft sectoral agreement with the social partners,” says Patrick Vandenberghe, chairman of the Christian trade union ACVBIE. “A few important matters have also been agreed in the field of combating social dumping. The fair competition plan will be evaluated, awareness-raising efforts will be made to better monitor and enforce the existing rules regarding the vertical chain, and the practical and legal feasibility of extending the law will be investigated. well-being to the self-employed.”

Employers’ federation Construction Confederation says it is a “fair” agreement. The unions have yet to submit it to their supporters. De Vlaminck does say that he “will advise positively” about the approval. The consultations will start next week, with the aim of knowing the result by the end of the month.
