Prediabetes can be detected by a change in bowel function. Reedus

An international team of scientists conducted a study in which it was found that prediabetes can be determined by a change in the intestinal microbiota.

Recall that prediat is a borderline state of the body when it no longer functions normally, but the violation has not yet reached the stage of the disease. As a rule, during this period, the production of insulin by the pancreas slows down in the body and glucose uptake is impaired.

By studying the microbiota, the occurrence of type 2 diabetes can be predicted. By reinforcing this with other symptoms, you can begin long-term therapy to delay the onset of diabetes, the scientists write.

In past studies, it has been proven that changes in bowel function affect the risks of diabetes. Scientists wanted to find out how prediabetes affects beneficial bacteria in the intestines, and whether this can be noticed in advance.

To find out, scientists invited volunteers for the experiment. It turned out that subjects with impaired fasting glucose had a lesser variety of microbiota than people with normal levels.

Also, volunteers who previously had impaired glucose tolerance had significant changes in the functioning of the intestines, and as a result, an increase or decrease in bacteria.

Our study showed that people with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes had a rather low level of intestinal bacteria producing butyrate, butyric acid before treatment. We believe that there is a connection between the onset of symptoms of diabetes and a decrease in the number of these microorganisms, – concluded scientists.
