Pratina Lukashenko critics / Article / LSM.lv

The Belarusian authorities have returned to the old tactic of holding critics of power to justice. Obstacles to the newly established National Coordination Council are also being put in place. Criminal proceedings have been instituted for calls for the overthrow of state power and threats to national security. Council activists are already being called for talks with the security authorities.

Latvian Television was present when Sergejs Diļevskis, the head of the strike committee of the Minsk Tractor Plant, went for questioning. He was accompanied by encouragement from supporters to be resilient.

The head of the strike committee stressed that the accusations against the Coordinating Council were unfounded. “The aim of the council is not to seize power, but it is intended to resolve disputes peacefully in order to safely resolve the situation without conflicts,” Diļevskis said.

According to him, 300 people are on strike at the Minsk tractor plant, but the others are in solidarity and “work so slowly that they hardly work”.

Supporters Vladimir Kanopļickis and Ksenija Abibaka emphasized that they could not sit at home and wanted to support the opposition to make a difference.

Political scientist Aleksandrs Klaskovskis told Latvian Television that the Coordination Council should have started much earlier. According to him, Lukashenko is not ready to compromise and will only try to delay the time for the protests to subside and he can take revenge on his opponents.
