Prague is saving, there will be no video mapping for the New Year

“The capital is currently trying to find financial savings and use the money effectively to cope with the economic impact of the coronavirus epidemic and to support Praguers, seniors, entrepreneurs, the socially disadvantaged and other groups, to support tourism, services and other areas,” document for councilors.

This year’s videomapping at the National Museum cost almost two million crowns. According to the document, the city can use the money for other purposes that will help Prague and its inhabitants deal with the economic effects of the coronavirus crisis.

Prague replaced traditional fireworks with videomapping for the first time this year, which caused controversy. In response, a collection was created by the authors of past fireworks. Eventually, the fireworks were set off from the bastion above Folimanka Park, and the event was sponsored by Prague 2.

The municipality assumes that it will lose 12 to 15 billion crowns in this year’s budget due to coronavirus. It is therefore looking for savings, according to earlier information it will reduce current expenses by 613.5 million crowns. The highest amounts will be lost by the municipal departments of management and transport, and other departments will also lose money.
