POTZ comes under the wings of TOPradio (and disappears from DAB+)

POTZ, the Flemish digital dance channel, will disappear from the Flemish DAB+, but will continue online under the wings of TOPradio.

Several readers have already drawn our attention in recent days to the fact that POTZ was also included in the app and in the list of side streams of TOPradio. Quite remarkable, because this radio initiative by Geert Pots (ex-DJ of TOPradio) and entrepreneur Frederick Verhelst was generally known as a competitor of TOPradio.

POTZ, founded in 2021, stands for a music format with mainly an idiosyncratic selection of the best dance records from 1980 to today. The station rented a spot on the mux Vlaanderen 2 (5A/5D) from the start, but failed to become commercially viable on its own. In the recently published 2022 annual financial report there is an alarm bell procedure and a negative equity of 221,932 euros. Although in principle these are debts to its own shareholders.

Today TOPradio confirms that “POTZ will soon continue online under the wings of TOPradio”. The message never mentions a takeover. It rather seems to be a form of collaboration.

“During the past 2 years, a large number of loyal listening fans have been reached, especially through online media,” it said. “The smooth non-stop music mix of contemporary dance and dance classics that cannot be heard anywhere else has clearly found its audience.”

However, the broadcasts via DAB+ are coming to an end, as can now also be heard in a message via DAB+. “Due to the increasing costs of providing broadcasts via DAB+, POTZ will soon continue online, under the wings of TOPradio. The broadcasts of POTZ via DAB+ are stopped, but POTZ listeners can go via the TOPradio BE app and TOPradio.be to listen to their favorite radio station. POTZ listeners can now also listen on the go thanks to the integration of Apple Carplay or Android Auto via the TOPradio BE app.”

TOPradio continues to build its own multimedia platform with a focus on beats and dance. In addition to TOPradio itself, you can also listen online to TOPtechno, TOPretroarena, TOPzillion, Tomorrowland One World Radio, TOPzen, TOPbam, TOPschaamteloos, TOPnewbeat, VersuzRadioByTOP and the TOPradio podcasts via the TOPradio BE app.
