Potential Shake-Up at Chelsea: Coach and Players Could be on the Move

In sporting difficulties, Chelsea could change coaches or part ways with many elements of their squad at the end of the season.

The arrival of Mauricio Pochettino on the Blues bench, in July 2023, seemed to put the English club on the right path, after the uncertainty and poor results under the leadership of the Englishman Graham Potter (September 2022-April 2023) then Frank Lampard (April-May 2023). However, the Argentinian, who worked at PSG and Tottenham, has not found the right formula, despite the millions spent.

The London team is 11th in the Premier League and should not participate in a European Cup next year, like this season. A catastrophe which pushes the management to think about the succession of its coach, having made contact with the revelation Michel (48 years old), at the head of Girona, 2nd in La Liga. But that’s not all.

Chelsea found the right vein

According to information from Telegraph, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has traveled to Saudi Arabia to negotiate a new sponsorship deal for the club. Above all, the manager discussed with the local Minister of Sports and the sporting director of the Saudi Pro League, Michael Emenalo, former manager of Chelsea between 2007 and 2017, for the sale of several players.

In the summer of 2023, the Blues sold Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly to Saudi Arabia, to Al-Hilal, for around 40 million euros. This made it possible to partly finance the club’s summer transfer window.

Five expected sales

For next summer, Chelsea leaders would like Romelu Lukaku (30), loaned to AS Roma this season, to join Cristiano Ronaldo (Al-Nassr) and Neymar (Al-Hilal) in the Middle East, as goalkeeper Kepa Arrizalabaga (29 years old) defenders Marc Cucurella (25 years old) and Trevoh Chalobah (24 years old) and center forward Armando Broja (22 years old).

Even so, it could be difficult to convince these players, who have not passed the age of 30, to leave European football. It is up to Chelsea to be convincing.
