PostNL saw significant growth in parcel post in the first quarter of 2020. The company made the biggest leap since the corona measures of mid-March.
“Because many physical stores had to close, many small and medium-sized webshops showed strong volume growth,” the company writes Monday. However, the international parcel flow was hit negatively, which according to PostNL is because the virus outbreak is worldwide.
For the full quarter, PostNL’s package turnover grew to 414 million euros, compared to 398 million in the same period in 2019. Total quarterly turnover came to 701 million euros, compared to 684 million in 2019.
The growth of the PostNL parcel division also continues after the first quarter, it is already clear. For example, the company reported last April that all efforts are being made to process more packages.
Capacity was increased by 40 percent in five weeks, partly by opening sorting centers also on Sundays. PostNL also started a so-called ‘matching counter’ to deploy people who are temporarily out of work as drivers or parcel sorters due to the corona crisis.
