Possessive love in psychology | Mix

Ammon – Possessiveness in psychology is the excessive and exaggerated pursuit of possession or the claim of possession of others. This type of love is abnormal and is characterized by a tendency to control others excessively. Possessiveness manifests itself in restricting social relationships in extreme and unhealthy ways, and often results in unwanted behavior towards a partner or others.

There are several reasons that cause a love of possessiveness in people, including:

Excessive dependence: Excessive dependence on another person can lead to an increase in a person’s tendency to possessiveness because he finds safety and comfort in that person’s presence.

Not having enough space for the individual: Not giving others enough space in the relationship and excessive interference in their personal lives can lead to increased possessiveness.

Insecurity: Not feeling secure in a relationship can generate suspicion and tension, thus increasing a person’s desire to be in control and possessive.

Cravings: There are intense desires towards the person concerned that can increase possessiveness because they make the person want to keep the other person at any cost.

Lack of trust: Lack of trust in a relationship can make a person want to control to make sure the other person doesn’t cross their boundaries.

With regard to the signs that appear in a possessive person, they include:

Rapid progress in the relationship: the possessive person appears by expressing his feelings quickly and trying to control the partner from the beginning of the relationship.

Keeping track of daily activities: The possessive person may be unacceptably bossy and controlling, questioning the partner excessively about the details of his daily life.

Snooping: A possessive person can be intrusive, violating the privacy of others and unjustifiably interfering in their lives.

Trying to control time: the possessive person tries to spend all his time with the partner and tends to cancel other social relationships.

Note that being possessive is an unhealthy behavioral pattern that can destroy relationships and cause relationship problems. This pattern should be treated with caution and it is preferable to seek psychological help if it causes major problems in personal life and relationships.
