The three major New York stock market indexes rose on the 4th.
As of the close of the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 127.17 points from the previous trading day to close at 33129.55 points, an increase of 0.39%; the S&P 500 Stock Index rose 34.30 points to close at 4263.75 points, an increase of 0.81%; Nasdaq The Gram Composite Index rose 176.54 points to close at 13236.01 points, an increase of 1.35%.
In terms of sectors, nine of the eleven major S&P 500 sectors rose and two fell. The consumer discretionary sector and communication services sector led the gains with gains of 1.97% and 1.28% respectively, while the energy sector and utilities sector fell by 3.36% and 0.09% respectively.
