Portugal. The government introduces the obligation to show a covid passport in restaurants

Government Portugal announced on Thursday new sanitary restrictions along with an increase in COVID-19 incidence since February. The new restrictions include the obligation to have a covid passport in catering establishments – this applies to the regions of the country most affected by the pandemic.

During a press conference in Lisbon, the spokeswoman of Marian Vieira da Silva’s government announced that Fr. restaurants during weekends will require:

  • possession of a document confirming the completion of vaccinations,
  • negative test result
  • or a COVID-19 certificate.

She specified that this obligation would apply to the interiors of catering establishments. She added that in areas of the country most affected by the pandemic, restaurants will have to close after 22:30.

Vieira da Silva indicated that in these areas, also, entering the hotel would require an introduction COVID passport or a certificate confirming the absence of SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Since Wednesday, Portugal has recorded the highest level of daily coronavirus infections since February, exceeding three thousand infections.

So far, medical services have confirmed more than 899,000 cases of coronavirus infections in Portugal. 17.1 thousand people died as a result of SARS-CoV-2 infection, nine of them during the last 24 hours.
