Portugal Advances to Nations Cup Final after Penalty Shoot-out Victory over Italy

In the first semi-final, Argentina beat France 6-4, in a match in which they were never at a disadvantage and at half-time they were equal to one goal.

The Portuguese roller hockey team qualified today for the final of the Nations Cup, in Montreux, Switzerland, by beating Italy 3-2 in the penalty shoot-out, after a goalless match.

After a semi-final in which neither team managed to score, in regular time or extra time, João Rodrigues and Gonçalo Alves twice gave Portugal an advantage in the ‘lottery’, but Alessandro Verona and Davide Banini canceled them out.

With the 11th shot, Gonçalo Alves scored again, unlike Alessandro Verona, in the 12th, and the ‘quinas’ formation thus marked a meeting in the final with Argentina, while Italy will compete for the ‘bronze’ ‘ with France.

In the first semi-final, Argentina beat France 6-4, in a match in which they were never at a disadvantage and at half-time they were equal to one goal.

Facundo Navarro (14 minutes), Lucas Ordoñez (28, direct free-kick, and 45) and Gonzalo Romero ‘Nolito’ (31, 38, penalty, and 50 direct free-kick) scored the goals of the ‘albi-celestes’, holders of the world title.

For the Gauls, who in the group stage beat Portugal 6-5, they scored against Bruno di Benedetto (11 minutes, direct free kick), Roberto di Benedetto (32 and 49) and Remi Herman (39, penalty).

In the classification games, from fifth to eighth place, Spain thrashed hosts Montreux HC 7-1, while Angola beat the home team, Switzerland, 3-2, with goals from André Centeno, Afonso Sousa and Rafael Lourenço .

In this way, the Angolans will argue for fifth place against the Spanish, while the home team and the host team face each other in the fight for last place.
