Porto will have driverless buses starting in autumn

The tests will be done on automatic mini buses, called shuttles, which will be able to circumvent obstacles.

The first phase of this project will take effect in the fall.

The Asprela area in Porto will have autonomous buses starting in the autumn, news the “Porto”. The initiative is part of an international project in which STCP – Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto participates.

The tests take place in that area, for being busy and for hosting several universities, as well as the Centro Hospitalar Universitário de São João. Mini buses, or shuttles, without drivers are able to circumvent obstacles.

The project called Fabulos, aims to bring “improvements in the level of service” and allow “substantial cost savings in one of the main areas of public transport offer”, reveals the National Innovation Agency, cited by the same publication.
