Porto Alegre: Luis Suarez to Stay with Gremio Until December, Confirms Club Manager

Luis Suarez won’t be reunited with Lionel Messi Of Inter Miami this summer. Guild has confirmed it will keep the Uruguay striker at least until the end of the year.

“There’s no doubt, he’s a very important player for us. It’s been like that since he first arrived. He always makes the difference,” said the Gremio manager, Renato Gauchoas quoted by The Athletic, Thursday (27/7/2023).

“I’ve spoken before about this drama, but the drama ended yesterday. It’s all over. It will bring a new calm for him, for the club and for the fans too. He will stay until December.”

“He’s a very important figure here, both on and off the field. He gives us certainty. He’s the fourth most productive active player in the world. He has helped us and hopefully that will continue against Flamengo,” Gaucho explained.

The match the 60-year-old coach is referring to is the semifinal first leg of the 2023 Copa do Brasil. Gremio ultimately lost 0-2, but still has a chance to reply in the second leg next month.

Apart from the results above, Suarez did make a significant contribution to Gremio. So far he has scored 13 goals and nine assists in 31 appearances in all competitions and led the team to win the 2023 Campeonato Gaucho.

In the Brazilian League, Gremio is in second place in the standings with 29 points until week 15. The season is still long, and the opportunity to win the title is still open. Suarez is certainly still needed.

Suarez is under contract with Gremio until December 2024. Apart from that, any team that wants to redeem him must pay a transfer fee, or pay the value of the release clause in his contract which is said to be worth 70 million dollars.
