Portimao safe despite Espargaro’s operation

The Aprilia rider underwent an operation to treat muscle fibrosis and should be at the rendezvous of the Portuguese Grand Prix on March 26.

Aleix Espargaro passed a painful Portimao Test on the handlebars of his new Aprilia RS-GP. After suffering a little pain in his right arm during winter testing at Sepang in February, he found himself with severe pain in Portugal last weekend. So much so that he thought he was a victim of compartment syndrome for the third time in his career, after 2010 and 2021.

It wasn’t compartment syndrome, but there was a problem to be treated: muscle fibrosis, the cause of an inflammation that prevented him from rolling properly. The winner of the 2022 Argentine Grand Prix went to the Dexeus Clinic in Barcelona on Monday March 13, the day after the Portimao Test, and underwent surgery there on Tuesday morning.

The surgery went well and Aleix Espargaro is now entering a recovery phase. This will be short because he is expected on his Aprilia on Friday March 24, the day of the first free practice for the Portuguese Grand Prix. He has already reassured his family: he will be present and well delivered on time.

Espargaro’s mistake at Barcelona cost him 3rd place in the league
