Twitter has announced new types of accounts, which it will identify through different labels, so that users know that they are interacting with ‘bots’ or with memory accounts of users who have passed away.
The platform has introduced tags that allow distinguish the accounts of political candidates, governments and state media. These identifications show the authenticity of the account so that users know who they are following in the public conversation that takes place on Twitter.
The company has announced in its official blog what will expand this identification to two new types of profiles: automated accounts or ‘bots’ and the accounts of users who have passed away, to be established as a keepsake account.
Twitter plans to introduce a new account type in 2021 to “distinguish automated accounts from human-managed accounts,” so that users can recognize them.
This distinction follows the recognition that the platform makes of some types of ‘bots’, since it understands that “they can bring a lot of value to the service when they share things like earthquake reports or self-care reminders“.
Commemorative accounts will also arrive next year, because they understand “how important it is preserve a Twitter account in memory of someone who has passed away“They will be accompanied by an updated policy and a new process for requesting commemoration of an account.
