Porsche actually only has six models on offer. The sports cars 718 (Cayman and Boxster) and 911, the sedans Taycan and Panamera as well as the SUV Macan and Cayenne. Nevertheless, the traditional sports car brand from Zuffenhausen, Germany, is bringing more innovations to the market than brands with twice as many models.
–
Because hardly any other manufacturer knows as well as Porsche how to stage every model variant with the big trowel. The Panamera alone started in 2016 with two entry-level models. This was followed in stages by Turbo, two hybrid versions (of course not at the same time) and the GTS. And that in two body shapes – Panamera and Panamera Sport Turismo. This is how Porsche keeps talking about its models up to real new editions.

More cylinders than the predecessor
The most recent example is the Cayenne. The GTS follows three years after the launch, and Porsche has a little surprise in store for it: Contrary to the current trend to make all cars with smaller engines more economical, it receives not fewer, but more cylinders than its predecessor. For the GTS of the third Cayenne generation means: V6 out, V8 in. Probably because the plug-ins sell so well and Porsche has an electric car with the Taycan on offer, it can be returned to the large petrol engine without CO2nd– fear of being fined.
–
The same V8 developed by Porsche itself with two turbos and a displacement of 4.0 liters is also used in the Cayenne Turbo and in the stronger one of two plug-ins, the Turbo S E-Hybrid. Since the GTS is positioned under the turbo, the V8 does a little less and comes to 460 hp (338 kW) and 620 Nm. That is 20 HP and 20 Nm more than the predecessor. The standard Sport Chrono Package goes to 100 km / h in 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 270 km / h.
–
A sports exhaust system ensures the right sound. To match, the GTS is two centimeters lower than the normal Cayenne. Active dampers are on board, and the cylinder deactivation and a more efficient tuning of the 8-speed automatic ensure a little green conscience. Nevertheless, the large Porsche SUV indulges as a GTS 13.0 liters per 100 kilometers. Cayenne GTS (from CHF 142,200) and Cayenne Coupé GTS (from CHF 147,300) will be available from the beginning of July.

Sold more than last year
This disc strategy pays off completely for Porsche. Despite the Corona crisis and the worst car year since 1968, Porsche is in a better position than a year ago. While the Swiss car market collapsed 40 percent in the first five months compared to the previous year, the sports car brand has so far sold 8.8 percent more cars than in 2019.
–
Sure, since there was still a 90 percent increase at the end of March, Porsche also left its mark in April and May. The fact that the traditional brand still sold more cars than in 2019 is probably due to the Taycan electric model. Because with him, Porsche expanded its range from five to six models at the end of last year.

Brand new as before

Another example from Porsche’s variant machine: The basis of the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition is the 450 hp all-wheel drive 911 with Targa roof, which can be opened in a sophisticated choreography except for an aluminum roll bar. For its looks, however, Porsche has used its history with start numbers on the doors, gold lettering and coat of arms and red or black-beige interior. 992 copies are built for from 226,700 francs. On top of that, Porsche’s Timepieces watch department in Solothurn has developed a suitable watch. End of the story? No, there are three more Heritage editions to follow.
