The real name of Pope John Paul I was Albino Luciani. He was elected to succeed Pope Paul VI on August 26, 1978, and was the last Italian pope. He was also known as the Pope with a smile. Pope John Paul I was of poor and humble origin, did not want a pope coronation after his election as pope and liked frugality.
