Pope Francis has revealed the resignation letter he wrote stating he should be removed from the papacy if his health deteriorates. This is the first time the Pope has made his resignation public. Pope Francis celebrated his 86th birthday on Saturday.
The Pope gave the signed letter of resignation to the Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone. That letter was written in 2013 when he was elected pope. The content of the letter is that if he is unable to perform his duties due to health problems, he should be removed from the papacy.
