“Zero carbon in aviation, a myth or a reality?” This is the title of the conference scheduled for Thursday, at 12 noon, at the University of Geneva. Its interrogative form can no longer fool anyone. Air transport no longer has a choice. It must demonstrate its carbon neutrality as soon as possible. This evidence is also prompting a sharp acceleration in the commitments of the branch.
“Achieving our goal of halving our net emissions, compared to 2015 levels, will certainly be a challenge. But we know it is possible. And we are more and more convinced that our industry can find the means to completely eliminate its net emissions ”, estimates Alexandre de Juniac, Managing Director of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This commitment may be surprising given the current context: more than 310 billion francs in losses in air transport in 2020, according to IATA estimates last spring.
