According to progress information, on Tuesday evening the political office of the Republicans officially excluded Gaël Perdriau, mayor of Saint-Étienne from its ranks. On 13 September Annie Genevard, interim president of LR, had started an exclusion procedure against the mayor who has been involved in a blackmail case on intimate videos since the end of August.
In December 2021 Gaël Perdriau had already been dismissed from the post of vice president of the party by the then president Christian Jacob, after taking positions contrary to those of the party leadership.
A free electron in LR
In November 2021 he did not support David Lisnard’s candidacy for LR for the election of the president of the association of mayors of France. He also refused to support Valérie Pécresse during this year’s presidential campaign.
The case was started in late August by a former close friend of the municipality who made very detailed confessions to the site Mediaparty on this “barbouzage of good manners” sponsored according to him by the mayor and his entourage. The judicial investigation opened in Lyon after the complaint of Gilles Artigues concerns the filming and use of a video shot in January 2015 in which we see this former deputy, known for his Catholic commitment and his homophobic positions, while being massaged by a man in a hotel room in Paris.
Gaël Perdriau, who wishes to remain in the presidency of the mayor and continues his function for the moment, has also had to take leave from the presidency of the metropolis of Saint-Étienne.
