Opposed to the choice of his movement to join the list of environmentalist Daniel Richard, the outgoing city councilor, François Séguy, hears ” with others to rebuild the rebellious France in Nîmes.

Objectif Gard: The ecologist Daniel Richard finally joined forces with the centrist president of Nîmes Métropole, Yvan Lachaud, for the second round of the municipal elections. What do you tell them to your rebellious French comrades?

François Séguy: I said it from the start! However, I am not satisfied. What a sad sight … Seriously, it was predictable. Daniel Richard is not a small business owner. He still managed Séphora after businessman Bernard Arnault came to get him. However, the line of our movement clearly states that ecology is incompatible with liberalism.

Your comrade and Fi leader for the Municipalities, Karine Voinchet, however said that her program was Left …

Let them stop bringing back their strawberries! Let’s stop with the race for small horses. Politics is not that and you do not declare yourself a political thicker overnight. Every morning I get up, I’m pissed off, my gut hurts. I had warned them anyway. I put pressure on the electoral committee at the national level so that it does not endorse this choice. When I see what is going on in Montpellier with the union of Fi to the businessman Mohed Altrad, it pains me.

At the same time, to win an election, you have to rally as widely as possible, otherwise you stay in opposition …

The goal is not to win at any cost. You have to have the means to be able to apply your policy. This requires convincing ideas on the ground during the electoral campaign. We do not bet on a candidate as was the case in Nîmes. This is why I say that politics is not a race for small horses. A campaign should focus, for example, on the choice of management of public services. Do we encourage governance? The public service delegation? It also relates to the choice of investments: should we give priority to the Palais des Congrès or, on the contrary, use this amount to make cycle paths? That’s real politics.

Since the union announced between the candidates Lachaud and Richard, have you heard from Karine Voinchet?

What is the point ? These people really have to let go of the business or we are going to the box! I just know that our national leadership decided to give the logo of the Rebellious France to Vincent Bouget, head of the list Nîmes citizen on the Left with whom Karine Voinchet had not wanted to ally.

What do you think is the future of rebellious France in Nîmes? Remember that Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s party came out on top during the 2017 presidential election.

First, I would like to remind you that there is no local of the rebellious France in Nîmes! Those who participated in this fiasco had better not bring back their strawberries. As for me, I will take my part with others to rebuild the movement in Nîmes, to give it another image. Today these are ruins. We have to get back to work.

How do you intend to proceed since you will no longer be elected during the next term?

We will follow what is happening in Nîmes and Agglo. We will be particularly vigilant about the operating costs of the Musée de la romanite. In 2018, for a six-month opening, the town hall paid a balance grant of one million euros. It is a political choice but you have to know it. At the Agglo, there is always the question of transport. The total cost would cost eight million euros since the tickets represent only 15% of the operating cost. So many subjects that will be discussed …

You could have gone to Communist Vincent Bouget’s list. Thing that you have refused and you will not be re-elected. Do you regret your choice?

Not at all. It would have been a disaster. If I had left on the list Nîmes citizen on the Left, I’d have been accused of leaving for a job. There, I show that I don’t give a damn!
