Polish Center Files Lawsuit Against President Andrzej Duda Over Controversial Statements on Film “Green Border”

The Polish Center for Monitoring Racist and Xenophobic Behavior filed a lawsuit in the Warsaw District Court against President Andrzej Duda over his statements about viewers of Agnieszka Holland’s high-profile film “Green Border”.

“European Truth” writes about this with reference to Onet.

According to the center, this is “the first such case in the history of Poland when an organization files a lawsuit against” Andrzej Duda.

We are talking about a statement that the Polish president used on September 20 on the public broadcaster TVP Info. Duda then said that he was not surprised by how the Polish border service called the people who watched the film “Green Border”.

“I’m not surprised that the Border Patrol officers who saw the film used the slogan ‘There are only pigs in the cinema’, a slogan familiar to us from the time of the Nazi occupation, when Nazi propaganda films were shown in our cinemas,” Duda said.

In Poland, a court released from punishment a writer who called the president a “moron”

He added that, in his opinion, the film “defames Polish functionaries.” In response to further accusations that the expression “Only pigs sit in cinemas” is offensive to Poles, he explained that he was only using a quote.

“The people who went to the cinema to see the above-mentioned film felt that they were not only “pigs”, but, above all, people who support the activities of propagandists,” the Center for Monitoring Racist and Xenophobic Behavior writes in a lawsuit demanding an apology from Duda .

The application was submitted to the District Court of Warsaw before the parliamentary elections, but only now it became known that the court accepted it for consideration. The President of Poland now has 60 days to respond from the date of service of the claim.

Agnieszka Holland’s new film, Green Corridor, tells the story of the humanitarian crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border caused by the Belarusian dictatorship, which is luring refugees to enter the EU. The footage shows the lives of an activist, a young border guard and a family of Syrian refugees.

Polish authorities sharply criticized the film as justifying illegal migration and allegedly showing Poles in a negative light.
