Polestar 3: New Pricing Revealed for Midsize Electric SUV, Reflecting Slowing EV Sales Growth

Polestar 3 Electric SUV: New Pricing Details Announced

Polestar, the highly anticipated midsize electric three-row SUV backed by Volvo and overseen by Volvo’s Chinese parent company, Geely, has released new pricing details for its upcoming vehicle.

The company had initially announced that the Polestar 3 would start at $83,900, positioning it as a luxury SUV. However, the latest pricing update indicates a significant price reduction.

Affordable Pricing for the Polestar 3

The Polestar 3 Long Range with all-wheel drive will now start at $73,400, a substantial drop from the original estimate. Including the $1,400 destination charge, the final price comes to $74,800, which is significantly less than the initially projected $84,000.

Customers can anticipate the production of this version to begin in the second quarter of 2024, with deliveries scheduled for the summer.

Premium Features Included

All variants of the Polestar 3 will come with the Polestar Pilot pack as a standard offering, providing an array of driver-assistance features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, automated lane changes, and a heads-up display. These features, which other automakers often charge extra for, come as an added benefit with the Polestar 3.

Additional Packages for Customization

For customers seeking extra comfort and enhancements, Polestar offers an optional Plus pack package for $5,500. This package includes a 1,610-watt Bowers & Willkins audio system with 25 speakers and a fresh air subwoofer, as well as “bio-attributed” MicroTech and animal welfare wool seats, heated rear seats, and 21-inch wheels. With the Plus pack added, the total cost comes to $78,900 ($80,300 with destination).

Polestar also caters to performance enthusiasts with their Performance pack version of the Polestar 3. Retailing for $79,400 ($80,800 with destination), this variant includes Polestar’s engineering chassis tuning, 22-inch Performance forged wheels, a software performance upgrade for increased output, quicker acceleration, and distinctive “Swedish gold” accents on the seat belts.

Customers looking for the complete package can opt for all three bundles—the Pilot, Plus, and Performance packages—for a total cost of $84,000 ($85,400 with destination).

Production and Availability

Initial manufacturing of the Polestar 3 will take place at Geely’s factory in Chengdu, China, commencing in the second quarter of this year. Furthermore, production at the company’s South Carolina facility is set to start in the middle of the year. It is important to note that the Polestar 3 will only be eligible for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit when leased.

As EV prices, largely influenced by Tesla’s significant price cuts, continue to decline industry-wide, the Polestar 3’s competitive pricing truly positions it as an appealing option in the market.
