Poland announced last year that it had a “radical plan” to stop all Russian oil imports by the end of 2022. However, Malecki revealed to the parliament that Poland still has a contract with the Russian company “Tatneft”.

The contract is valid until the end of 2024 and covers approximately 10% of the needs of the Polish oil company “Orlen”, Maleckis revealed.

This means that Poland still buys 200,000 tons of oil from Russia every month.

Maleckis said that it is impossible to cancel the contract with “Tatneft”, because then Warsaw would have to pay compensation to the Russian company.

Poland has diversified its oil and gas suppliers in recent years, and Malecki said the contract with Tatneft is the only such contract with Russia.

An agreement between the European Union (EU), the G7 countries and Australia came into effect on Sunday on a price ceiling for Russian oil products to reduce Russia’s income, which allows it to continue its war against Ukraine.

The price ceiling means that the G7 countries, the EU and Australia will provide technical, brokerage and insurance services related to Russian oil products only if they are purchased at a price that does not exceed the level set by the cap.
