The Polish Sejm will meet tomorrow morning in closed session after a series of cyberattacks against the country, the deputy chairwoman of the lower house of parliament was quoted as saying by AFP and the Associated Press.
“We will listen to the explanations and information of the Prime Minister“Mateusz Morawiecki, who insisted on holding this meeting, told reporters Malgozata Kidava-Blonska.
The Speaker of the Seimas Elżbieta Vitek specified that the sitting will be fully attended.
“We are the subject of an unprecedented cyber attack against Poland, against Polish institutions and e-mail users“Government spokesman Piotr Mueller told private television station Polsat News. He added that at an extraordinary session of the Polish parliament, the prime minister would present secret documents about the” wide scope “of cyber attacks.
Last week, the minister in charge of the national vaccination program against KOVID-19, Michal Dvorchik, was the victim of a cyberattack against his personal e-mail. Some of his personal emails were then published in the communication application Telegram.
The scale of the attacksis huge and does not apply only to Minister Dvorchik, nor only to members of the government, nor only to the party “Law and Justice”, but to a large group of people“, noted Mueller.
Dvorchik himself commented on Thursday that the expression and language of the messages, as well as the metadata of the published files, show that these materials may have been prepared and processed by Russian-speakers.
According to media reports, Dvorchik’s e-mail contained official documents, some of which were secret. He denies.
The hackers also targeted Dvorchik’s wife’s social media profiles.
Prime Minister Morawiecki called the cyberattacks “the new face of modern warfare.” There are reports that they are coming across Poland’s eastern border, he noted.
Morawiecki stressed that Polish politicians must learn a lesson from cyber attacks, be very careful when using various communication channels and be careful about the level of security.
A prosecutorial investigation is currently underway.
