Pokémon inspires scientists to name a new species of cockroach

Pokémon has again abandoned the plane of anime and video games, because the scientific community named a newly discovered species of cockroach after a pocket monster. And if you know the latest generations of Pokémon well, surely you already know which of them we are referring to. Guess which one that is Pokémon?

The hitherto unknown species of cockroach was discovered in Singapore and named Nocticola Pheromosa due to pheromosathe seventh generation pocket monster that debuted in Pokémon Sun and Moon. It is the first cockroach of the species to be discovered, so it had not been documented until now. Scientists (and fans of Pokémon for obvious reasons) immediately noticed the resemblance to the character’s design, but here you can see for yourself:

“Both my collaborator and I are fans of Pokémon, so we thought why not name the cockroach after taking inspiration from a Pokémon that was inspired by a cockroach. There are some similarities between Pheromosa and the small cockroach we found, such as having a long antennae, wings that resemble a coat, and long, slender legs,” entomologist Foo Maosheng commented on their discovery.

While we are all still waiting to find a new species to give it a name Pokémon, the anime of the pocket monsters is about to return to the small screen.
