A doctor from Plovdiv made a breakthrough in robotic surgery in our country by performing 75 interventions in just seven months, covering the full range of operations in abdominal surgery, which is an exceptional achievement.
Prof. Dr. Rosen Dimov, Head of the Clinic of Surgery at Kaspela University Hospital, Professor at the Department of Special Surgery at the Medical University – Plovdiv, together with his team managed to become the most successful program for robotic surgery in the abdominal area with the DaVinci robot in Bulgaria.
The latest generation robot performs the full range of operations in the abdominal area – in malignant neoplasms of the stomach, colon, rectum, pancreas, liver and spleen, in cases that are impossible in other types of open or laparoscopic surgery.
“The DaVinci system can be used in virtually any surgical intervention. It helps us to be precise, to be jewelry, to work in tight spaces, where with standard laparoscopic instruments we can not reach “, says Prof. Dimov.
Another advantage is that the National Health Insurance Fund is already reimbursing robotic operations in abdominal surgery, as well as in urology, thoracic surgery and gynecology. Thus, patients with malignant neoplasms can be operated on with the DaVinci system in a clinical way.
The DaVinci Surgical System is one of the first minimally invasive surgical systems using FDA-approved robots. Today, DaVinci robots are more than 5,000 in the world and are used by surgeons in all 50 US states, as well as in 67 countries around the world.
